White River

The White River extends 120 miles from Bull Shoals Dam to Batesville, AR. It is a world recognized trout fishing stream and held world record Brown and Rainbow trout records for many years. Trout inhabit the river down to Gion, AR. Tributaries such as Buffalo, Sylamore, and Cripple Creek rivers are know for there record size small mouth bass.

The Arkansas Fish & Game has a trout hatchery below Norfolk dam which is open to the public. A popular visit site is Dry Run Creek which is fed by the “run-off” from the fish hatchery and feeds into the North Fork branch of the White River. Dry Run creek is restricted to kids under 16 years and those that hold a handicap certificate issued by the Game & Fish commission. It is a catch-release area and restricted to “fly fishing”. I mention this because this creek is full of “large trout” and they thrive in the cold water release by the Trout hatchery.

During the “late” summer, the North fork & White river become low in oxygenated water and the larger fish migrate up to Dry Run Creek that is rich in oxygen. The best viewing area for this event is at the “mouth” of Dry Run as it empties in the North Fork of the White River.  Like their Salmon cousins they have to “jump up” a “water-fall”. This is a quite a spectator observation and you can find photos and video on you-tube and Instagram.

While visiting Mountain View, AR you should give the trout hatchery and Dry Run Creek consideration. Even better, you should book a sightseeing or fishing trip. I can personally guarantee an memory filled experience as my video indicates. There are several outfitters that also rent rafts, kayaks, and canoes for those that want a different experience on the cool water of the White River.

A White River experience is only one of many activities available for your Mountain View, AR vacation enjoyment.

Tom and Becky have been busy adding another sleeping area to “Around the Bend” cabin. They added bunk beds and finished the walls in cedar. This was originally the utility room; so now, “Around the Bend” can sleep up to 8 people.

The response to our new cabin has been brisk; especially, on weekends. This is by far our most spacious cabin at 1600 Sq. feet. There is so much room for gatherings and just sitting back to relax.

Many of our guest have commented that the pictures DO NOT do justice to the cabin. We were surprised by these comments as we hired a “professional” photographer to take those pictures. In response to their comments, I did a video of the cabin and I have included a link to our YouTube video. I am hopeful this will excite you as to ALL the amenities offered by this cabin.

Peaceful-Relaxing-Beautiful-Fun for the Whole Family

We thought it looked like an amazing place to stay and were not disappointed. You can take in the stunning views of the White River and the cliffs beyond from the comfort of the living room or from the massive deck. After a soak in the hot tub or a walk to the river there’s nothing better then warming up by the cozy fireplace. Another plus is being so close to the Historic Mountain View town square and the Ozark Folk Center. Tom and Becky are the best hosts you’ll find (I promise you’ll never run out of firewood).

Greetings from Mountain View, AR
